Family and friends will come together to raise money for the RFDS
Always one to do their bit for locals, the Augathella Bowls Club is hosting a RFDS fundraiser on the 9th of April, 2016.
Trevor Russell, President of the Augathella Bowls Club, says the service means a lot to the town.
“We’re all affected by the flying doctor here, and more so here in Augathella then anywhere else because we haven’t got a big base hospital.
“Everyone that is in need of medical attention from here, they just fly them to Brisbane or Toowoomba. I’ve even been on the plane myself,” he says.
The fundraiser will start around lunch time with some bowls, followed by a big BBQ dinner, raffles and auctions.
Trevor says the prizes are well worth going in the run for.
“One local grazier has donated a beast to be cut up into meat trays for the raffle so there’ll be some decent sized meat trays.
“Another prize in the raffle is a full carton of rum which will be worth winning.
“The raffle is already in the vicinity of $100o worth of prizes so it’s going to be worth taking tickets in,” says Trevor.
There is also an exciting opportunity for our local sheep breeders, with 2 stud Dorper Rams being donated by Terry Cotter, all the way from Gilgandra, NSW.
Terry’s Dorper’s are bred on native grass land and have numerous show titles.
“We’re hoping that some of the local Dorper breeders will buyt them, but it’s up them to make an offer.
“We’ll be advertising to them, letting them know that they are up for auction,”says Trevor.
The bowls club is still asking for people to donate prizes, for use in both the auction and the raffle.
This is a great local event, raising money for a much needed service.
