South West NRM are hosting a grant application workshop next week in Charleville and Cunnamulla.
The workshop is being run by Samantha Morris from Wombat Creative. Sam has 20 years experience in the community sector, with a keen focus on rural conservation and land care engagement.
“Sam is quite an expert at writing applications for money to funders and she’s been teaching people how to do this for a long time, and in the natural resource management field.
“Sam promises that by the end of the workshop you’ll be able to write a quality application in under half an hour, and I reckon that’s pretty good,” says Darren Jennings, South West NRM’s Regional Landcare Facilitator.
This half day workshop will cover a range of topics including:
- The common types of grants: government, corporate and philanthropic funding programs.
- What funding bodies are looking for.
- Reality checking your project for its eligibility and likelihood of funding.
- Turning your project idea into a project plan.
- Budgets, buzzwords and tips to make your application smooth and logical.
- How to write a funding submission in just twenty minutes.
“We’re inviting anyone that would like to learn how to write better applications because better applications means better opportunity for success, which means better opportunity for you to run the projects that you’re looking to run on your property or as a land care group.
“Many people, when they sit down to write a grant application, spend a long time because they’re not really sure what they need to put in what spots.
“Sam will take you through the process, how to get that information out of your head and onto the paper as fast as possible and make it look good,” says Darren.
For those of you who have been successful in gaining grants in the past, it is still recommended that you attend this workshop.
“This workshop isn’t just about our (South West NRM) application process, whilst we’ll use it as an example on the way through, what we’re teaching is that people can use that same process with any organisation they wish to ask for money from,” says Darren.
The workshop will be held at the following locations:
Tuesday 12th April
The Rocks Restaurant
74 Wills Street, Charleville
Wednesday 13th April
Cunnamulla Shire Hall
Jane Street, Cunnamulla
