There’s sharp criticism from member for Warrego, Ann Leahy, of the Government’s decision to replace Lindsay Godfrey on the South West Hospital and Health Service with a non-local, who she says is a “Labor Mate.”
Her criticism has been reinforced by Liberal National Party Leader Tim Nicholls who says the south west deserve better than a fly-in, fly out Health boss that has no understanding of regional health issues.
“True to form this do-nothing Labor Government has yet again handed a plum gig to a Labor mate, to replace true blue local Lindsay Godfrey.”
“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Cameron Dick need to explain to the people of the south west why a local who understands the challenges of delivering health services in regional and remote areas was overlooked for one of their Labor mates from Brisbane.”
Long-time former Labor Director General Jim McGowan will take up the $100 000 a year position and will work external to the region.
Warrego MP Ann Leahy is livid with the decision.
“This role must be held by someone absolutely independent who is prepared to stand up for the needs of south west Queenslanders.”
“Mr McGowan was a long-serving Director-General under the Bligh and Beattie Labor governments but as far I can see has no experience in delivering the critical health services that these remote areas need.”
“This decision is a slap in the face for local medical professionals and others who understand the bush and have the interests of their local community at heart.”
