Charleville locals have been updating their CPR, First-Aid and Fire Safety skills this week, with the help of Roma Firefighting Equipment.
The early morning starts weren’t enough to deter these enthusiastic learners, who all know the importance of having these skills. Instructor, Brian O’Rourke, says you never know when you are going to have to implement them.
“It’s basic common sense. Because every one of us has family and friends we care about and love. Everyone is going to get hurt some stage of the game, and if you do your first aid you are in a position to help them, and save that persons life – worst case scenario,” he says.
Using all the latest equipment for the training, and having engaging and entertaining teaching methods, Mr. O’Rourke took participants through all the vital steps to save someone’s life.
Not to be taken lightly, the fire safety demonstration was also a critical component of the training, especially for those Charleville locals working closely with the community.
“Fire training is a legislative requirement under the Fire and Rescue Service Act, everyone in the workplace should receive fire training. Within the first 30 days of the commencement of employment and once every two years thereafter. And penalty points can apply, which the fire brigade can impose upon you. So it’s not just a matter of, oh its going to be a good fun thing to go to – which it is, but it’s a legal legislative requirement,” he says.
Being a part of these Safety training days, you tend to realise just how little you know about the correct ways to deal with an emergency.
Mr O’Rourke points out that some of what is taught might seem like common sense, but most of it will definitely be new information.
“A lot of information that comes out, is stuff that people don’t realise, a lot of it’s common sense, but a lot of it people don’t realise the importance of it, particularly simple things like CPR. So you can never start too early with it,” he says.
All those wanting to up-skill and take a course in CPR, First Aid or Fire Safety, do not hesitate to contact Roma Firefighting Equipment who can organise for an instructor to come and teach you these important life skills.
