Cunnamulla Hospital’s Community Advisory Network (CAN) is getting ready for another successful year of community representation with a call for additional members.
Cunnamulla Hospital Acting Director of Nursing and Facility Manager Ninette Johnstone says community members who wanted to join the CAN should lodge their expressions of interest by Friday, 12 January.
“The Cunnamulla CAN has had a very successful year and is looking forward to continuing its strong community representation during 2018.’’
Some of the Cunnamulla CAN’s highlights over the past 12 months have been:
• Advocated on behalf of community members for services, such as provision of aged care services; • CAN Chair participated in a state-wide Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme workshop to review and improve the scheme;
• CAN participated in the consultation process for the development of a long-term health service plan for the South West Hospital and Health Service to provide service direction until 2026;
• CAN supported the development and integration of the Primary Health Care Centre and committee was in attendance at the official opening of the joining of buildings recently.
Ms Johnstone says the purpose of the CANs is to provide a mechanism for consumer and community engagement with their local health facility and the health service generally.
“The CANs help identify the community’s health needs, allow information to be shared regarding service delivery and allow consumers and community to have input into the planning, development and delivery of public health services in their area.”
“CAN members also play many other important roles in their local health services.”
“I urge Cunnamulla residents to take the opportunity to apply to join their CAN and continue actively representing their community.’’
All CAN positions are volunteer positions.
Current CAN members at Cunnamulla are: Trish McKenzie (CAN Chair) and members Kerry Crumblin, Suzette Beresford, Chelsea Clayton, Linda Wharton and Jackie Osborne.
