There is plenty on this weekend for all ages, and one of the major events involves a big clean up of our towns.
We’re talking of course about Clean Up Australia Day, and it is taking place Sunday 6th March from 6am down at the Charleville Swimming Pool.
Ann-Maree Johnson, organiser of Clean Up Australia Day on behalf of the Murweh Shire Council, says the day is all about having some pride in our towns.
“Here in our Shire it’s a chance for our community to participate and get involved and try and tidy up our towns.
“They’re usually quite clean but it’s chance to go around and pick up those few loose papers that are here and there.
“Registration opens at 6am. It doesn’t mean that you have to be there at 6am it’s just that they’re open at that time for those who want to come and clean up in the early hours when it’s a bit cooler,” she says.
You can also register online! There is a site set up for our Shire, you just have to head to the Clean Up Australia Day website, type in our post code and away you go!
In terms of transport, Murweh Shire Council have us covered.
“There will be a bus available to transport volunteers from the pool to different areas around the town and then you can clean and walk your way back to the pool.
“Should you choose to go to the complete other side of town, that’s fine, the bus will pick you up and bring you back,” says Ann-Maree
The bus will also be collecting full bags and give you fresh ones when you need them.
Everyone will work their way back to the pool for a free refreshing morning swim and a free BBQ breakfast.
Ann-Maree is asking that all young children please be accompanied by a parent, carer or guardian.
So what do you need to bring?
- Pair of gloves (if you’ve got some at home, otherwise you’ll be supplied with a pair)
- Hat and sunscreen
- Water bottle
And everyone that attends and registers will go into the draw to win a few prizes as a big thank you for helping to keep our town beautiful and clean.
