Seniors at Charleville will be treated to an extravaganza of entertainment and activities when the town celebrates Seniors Week from 15 to 24 August.
Charleville Healthy Ageing Program Coordinator and Murweh Mayor Annie Liston, says expect a huge week.
The week kicks off with a Mayor’s Morning Tea at the Town Hall from 9.30 am on 15 August.
This will be followed next day by a fun day at Augathella, including morning tea and lunch.
Mrs Liston said Seniors Week was an opportunity for Queenslanders of all ages to join together and celebrate the valuable contributions of older people.”
Seniors Week aims to:
• Improve community attitudes towards older people and ageing
• Facilitate community participation and activity by older people, including those from Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
• Enhance community connections and inter-generational relationships. Mayor Liston says that the week it’s our way of saying thanks to our seniors for all the work they do and have done for the community.
“Activities in Charleville would continue with another fun day, games and a bake off at the Senior Citizens Building on 18 August.”
“The following week, activities will continue at the Waroona Multipurpose Service on 21 August with a day of sharing memories and looking back to way back when – basically catching up with the past –followed by a day of fishing on the Ward River on 22 August.”
“We’ll then wrap up our Seniors Week activities with a big lunch and entertainment at the Town Hall on 23 August.’’
Mayor Liston is urging all seniors in Charleville to take the opportunity to participate in the various activities and events on offer.
This year’s Seniors Week activities have been developed with the support of a number of different organizations, including the Charleville Neighbourhood Centre, Charleville Hospital Auxiliary, the South West Hospital and Health Service and the Murweh Shire Council.
