Charleville, housing just a small population of around 3500, is situated in South West Queensland on the banks of the Warrego River. Despite its small population this outback town is rich in Australian history and tourist attractions.

Augathella is an outback town in western Queensland which lies on the Matilda Highway in the Murweh Shire. It is situated 748 kilometres west of Brisbane and 85 kilometres north of Charleville.

Charleville’s spectacular clear night sky, unaffected by the lights and pollution which cover the stars in city areas, is the focus of the Charleville Cosmos Centre.
Astronomy by Day – During the day you have a number of activities to enjoy. Hold meteorites from space in your hand, find out what the ancient Astronomers believed and learn how time, light and gravity fit together. ‘Journey to Infinity’ in the Cosmos Theatre. Find out whatever happened to PLUTO! Find out your age and weight on other planets!
Astronomy by Night – The evening presentation at the Cosmos Centre is a delight. Take a tour with an experienced guide of the Outback Night Sky through powerful Meade Telescopes. See such things as star clusters, planets, nebulae and learn about the Milky Way and how we fit into the Solar System.

Love a great story? Then boy have we got a great one for you! Harry (Poppa) Corones, a true Charleville pioneer has a story like no other.
Arriving in Australia penniless, Harry went on to place himself in Australian history books not once – but twice! He was granted permission to use the royal insignia on crockery for the hotel, hosted many famous guests and so much more.
This tour is filled with fabulous history, quirky stories, beautiful architecture and tales of famous guests (find out what unusual request Amy Johnson made). Complete with scrumptious afternoon tea, this is one story you can’t leave without hearing.

Historic House Museum began life in 1888 and is one of the few ‘Queenslanders’ left in Charleville.
Originally built as the National Bank and Manager’s Residence, it has since been a boarding house and private residence. The building retains many original features, including the marble fireplaces.
The historic collections include working gramophones, clothing and tools from the town and surrounding stations. The machinery collection includes a Dennis Fire Engine, Rail Ambulance, and a replica Cob & Co Coach.
At times, visitors to the Museum are treated to a performance by George on the Auto Harp.

The RFDS Visitor Centre provides an incredible insight into this iconic outback service which is still being delivered to the people of the outback by the Flying Doctor.
Medical supplies and radio equipment have changed dramatically over the years and throughout it all the Flying Doctor always made it through. The long history of the medical service to remote outback communities is explained in an introductory film. Enjoy displays of past and present equipment and medical kits. Absorb information that will take you through the journey from the humble beginnings of the RFDS through to the present day operations of this vital service to outback communities.

At Queensland Parks & Wildlife Office you have the opportunity to view Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies.
There is a picnic table in the native garden near the Wallaby enclosure. National Parks & Environmental information are on display in the foyer.
