Member for Warrego Ann Leahy welcomed the Federal Coalition Government’s announcement of $1 million towards the much-needed Heart of Australia Truck, that provides specialist medical services including cardiology and respiratory medicine clinics to Dalby, St George, Charleville and Roma across her Warrego Electorate.
Ms Leahy says that she had written to the State Labor Health Minister and raised the need for continued funding for the Heart of Australia Truck in State Parliament on three occasions and each time requests for funding from the State Government has been ignored.
“The State Governments inaction is disappointing when you consider the truck last year received 353 referrals from Queensland Health clinics in rural Queensland in 2015-16 the bulk of these were even written on official Queensland Health letterheads.”
Ms Leahy says the Federal injection of funds now anchors a service which she says has now become part of the front line for the regions.
“I am advised that the Heart of Australia has received 1601 new patients in 2015-16 whereas the comparable service, the Queensland Health Cardiac Outreach Service, only received 1340 new patients in the same timeframe, proving it is an effective service and taking strain off Queensland Health services.”
