The multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Diamantina Developmental Road between Bedourie and Boulia in far west Queensland has been officially opened today, delivering improved travel for motorist.
Officially opening the road, Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland Coralee O’Rourke says for the first time, locals would have access to a fully sealed road network, with upgrades stretching along eight kilometres of the 190 kilometre link.
The project has been funded from the $40 million Western Roads Upgrade Program (WRUP).
The Minister says thanks to the efforts of dedicated workers from both state and local government, the upgrades will improve connectivity and liveability for communities in the region and improve safety.
“It’s also good news for industry, who can now better transport livestock and freight from the North all the way to the South.”
