It’s now complete – The Cunnamulla community has celebrated a health care milestone with the opening of the new and improved $500,000 Cunnamulla Primary Health Care Centre.
With the centre’s two wings now physically connected, staff and patients can enjoy a centralised waiting area, reception and allied health consulting rooms.
The transformation started in 2015, with the primary health care centre being created through a collaborative agreement between the South West Hospital and Health Service and the Cunnamulla Aboriginal Corporation for Health (CACH).
Draft plans for the works were releases in August last year at a barbecue celebrating the centre’s first anniversary.
South West Hospital and Health Board Chair Jim McGowan says the centre was uniquely designed to meet the evolving needs of local residents.
“This collaboration between the health service and CACH is incredibly positive for the community, who have really embraced the integrated model of care.”
“According to staff there have already been better outcomes for patients, with the pooling of resources allowing for improvements in chronic disease and primary health services.”
Mr mac Gowan says this combined approach to care has also assisted in the recruitment of skilled health clinicians, offering them more diverse opportunities than the two organisations could have done individually.
“The opening of this centre is innovation in action and I know the changes to the building will allow the two organisations to work even more seamlessly as one team.”
“We welcome your feedback to the team when you next visit the new-look centre and hope your experience is a positive one.”
CACH Board Chair Julie Fox says delivering all the health care services under one roof would genuinely enhance the experiences of patients and clients.
“Now the work is complete the health care centre is a true one-stop- shop for primary health care, making it much easier for patients to access services.”
“Cunnamulla is facing many health issues which are preventable, and this joint initiative is all about improving primary health care and addressing complex health issues.”
