Last Saturday the boys wrapped up the season at the Central Queensland Under 14s Cup, with Roma taking out the Grand Final title.
Due to a lack of numbers in some of the teams, Charleville were able to play Roma in the major semi-final, where they came out on top.
Coach Shaun Radnedge says the boys really put their all into that game.
“I’ve been coaching the boys for eight years, and it’s the first time we’ve beaten Roma. We beat them 20 -18 which was a huge effort for us and the boys played really, really well.”
Unfortunately the Roma team were just too good in the Grand Final game.
“I think we (Charleville) played our grand final in the game before, but a great achievement by the boys. They didn’t give up and it is a huge effort from where we came from at the start of the year,” says Coach Radnedge.
And when asked if there were any stand out players for the game, Shaun simply had this to say.
“For our team, I wouldn’t like to say there were any stand outs. On the day, all the guys – we’ve got about six thirteen year olds that really stood up- there were no bad players, especially in that first game,”he said.
There were a few injuries for our Charleville team, which happened in the grand final.
“In that second game, we got a couple of injuries and that really put us to the test, but still the boys didn’t give up, they tried until the end, and you can’t ask for any more then that. It was an excellent effort,” says Coach Radnedge.
The Under 14s aren’t quite finished the season yet, heading off to Caboulture this weekend for a memorial competition organised by the QRL. The boys will play three games this Saturday against Caboulture and Pittsworth, with a dinner and movie night to follow.
Sean and the boys would like to thank all of the parents for the tremendous effort they put into making this season a success, Annie Liston for her help in organising transport for all the weekends, and to the NAB ladies who put in a lot of effort to make sure the Grand Finals ran smoothly.
What a wonderful season, well done again to our Charleville Under 14s team.
