The Warrego region might have its first female state representative with its LNP candidate Ann Leahy quietly confident of a victory.
Final votes are still being counted with Ms Leahy currently holding 52.65% of the count from 63 of the 78 booths in the electorate.
Ms Leahy says she’s starting with a full calendar.
“The first thing we would like to do is get to work. That’s the first important thing.
“I’ve got a number of things already booked in my dairy, for instance the Chinchilla melon fest and I’m going to sit down and do some work there to make sure that I’m covering the electorate and in amongst the people.
“People in regional Queensland, they really like to shake your hand and get to know you a lot more, they don’t want to contact you through twitter or facebook or something like that.
“They’re very traditional people and they appreciate that one on one contact. I’ll be focusing on doing that and I’m going to be out in Roma today on the job,” she says.
